If my student is late:
P-12 Students must report first to Student Services if they are late.
P-6 Students must show a signed note to class teacher in the morning
7-12 Students must show a signed note to their homegroup teacher in the morning and then to the appropriate subject teacher at time of leaving. The student must then ‘sign out’ in Student Services
If a student is ill or injured during class then they must present at Student Services with a note signed by their current teacher. They will then be assessed. If it is deemed necessary Parent’s/Caregivers of the sick or injured student will be notified and asked to collect the student from school.
In some cases where the injury or illness is considered an emergency an ambulance will be called without hesitation.

To ensure a student’s best chance at success, we strongly encourage students to attend school on time and on a consistent basis.
For all unexplained absences parents/caregivers will receive an SMS notification mid-morning.

Primary students are provided with a stationery pack at the start of the year. This pack includes exercise books and other basic items. Further requirements will be requested via a note home to parents.
Secondary students will need to purchase stationery items at a local retail store, as they are not sold by REC.
Note for Secondary Students:
Knowing what to buy before all subjects are known is a bit tricky. Students will know their subjects for sure from day one of Term 1 (majority will get their top preferences), but even then some change their minds on subject choices after that. So we suggest you buy for the compulsory subjects, and beyond that, either wait until subjects are confirmed, or buy a small amount of generic stationery to get them by. Certainly don’t over buy at this stage. And of course always keep your receipts.

By 8.40am Students to be in Class or Home Group, roll taken, wrist bands applied. Parents to head straight to the oval for the Team Entrance Parade.

Sports Day Photo Policy:
All students with no online photo consent will be issued with a wrist band for identification.
Official school photographers will verify consent by viewing bands. A selection of these photos will be used on the school website, Facebook and Instagram pages. In the interest of safety, child protection and privacy, students and parents are welcome to take photographs of their own children. Parents and students are strictly instructed not to take photos or film footage of other children or load any such material online to social media sites.
Student Health Issues:
First Aid will be available from the First Aid station located in the Byards Gym on the Byards Rd side.
Asthma: students who are able to manage their own Asthma with inhalers are expected to do so, with support from staff if needed.
For others requiring assistance, Primary teachers will follow the same procedures as normal.
Medication: Students who normally report to Student Services for 12 o’clock medication will report to the First Aid station in the Byards Gym.
Inclement Weather:
A determination will be made according to the 7am forecast on http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/noarlunga.shtml.
The event will be postponed if the weather is forecast at:
34 degrees or over
Severe thunderstorms
Heavy rain
If Sports Day is cancelled, students will attend normal lessons. A back-up date has been set to the following Friday.
Closed School Services:
The Front Office, Finance Office and the Canteen will be closed for the day. Normal services to students will be available from the Service Tent.
Student Sign In/Out (Secondary):
Students will be signed in and out from the Service Tent if they arrive late or have to leave early.
Student Behaviour Management:
Assistant Principals will be roaming and available to manage behaviour issues. Parents/carers will be requested to collect students from school as required.
Toilets:
Students are to use the Byards Gym or nearby primary unit toilets.
Visitors are to use the visitors’ toilet in either the Byards Gym, the Library or the Carew Building (International Centre).
Sun protection:
All students are required to wear a hat.
Sleeved tops/T-shirts only (no singlets – except secondary students during their athletic events).
Students are asked to fully apply 4hr+ sunscreen at home, before coming to school.
Sunscreen will be available at the Service Tent, at event locations, from primary class teachers and other roaming staff.
Reminder announcements will be made over the PA
Families are welcome to take advantage of the shaded areas around the perimeter of the ovals, and are welcome to bring along their own chairs and picnic rugs.
Dress code:
All students are encouraged to go wild and dress-up in their House colours. Sun-smart policy still applies. Bonus points will be given for creative/colourful outfits. Appropriate sporting footwear is required. No thongs allowed.

Fundraising:
The College is taking advantage of a fundraising opportunity and providing a variety of food and face painting, at a small cost. Purchases can be made with coupons available from the Finance Tent on the oval on the day, and prior via Qkr! and collected from the Finance Office.
Food/activities:
There will be a number of food stalls and reasonably priced activities, including
• Face painting
• BBQ stall: burgers, bacon & eggs, snags
• Cake stall
• Coffee van & the REC coffee cart
• Vegetarian and gluten free options will be available on some stalls
All stalls only accept coupons for payment.
Break times:
Primary students will have scheduled breaks as part of their program.
Secondary students will break according to their event schedule.
Boundaries:
All students are to remain on the ovals/courts on the day. Internal areas of the school grounds are out of bounds, except when accessing toilets. Gates will be locked and there is no access to lockers. Students are not permitted to leave school grounds without parent permission for unavoidable appointments. They must sign out at the Service Tent.
Car Parking:
No additional parking will be available on the ovals (due to the nature of the event). Ample parking is available in nearby streets.
The names behind the HOUSES
Catherine Helen SPENCE (31 October 1825 – 3 April 1910) was a Scottish-born Australian author, teacher, journalist, politician and leading suffragist. She arrived in South Australia just aged 14. Catherine went on to become a journalist and wrote several novels and poetry. Catherine’s later life was devoted to improving the life of women and children. She was a significant figure in the women’s suffrage movement and worked tirelessly to better the lives of destitute children. She was also Australia’s first female political candidate. Her image appears on the commemorative Centenary of Federation Australian five-dollar note issued in 2001. There are numerous memorials to Spence around the Adelaide City Centre, including a bronze statue in Light Square.
Daisy BATES devoted 40 years of her life to studying Aboriginal life, history, culture, rites, beliefs and customs. Living in a tent in small settlements from Western Australia to the edges of the Nullarbor Plain, notably at Ooldea in South Australia, she researched and wrote millions of words on the subject. Daisy Bates also worked tirelessly for Aboriginal welfare, setting up camps to feed, clothe and nurse them. During her years at Ooldea she financed the supplies she bought for the Aborigines from the sale of her property. She was also famed for her strict lifelong adherence to Edwardian fashion, including boots, gloves and a veil.
Sir Douglas MAWSON OBE FRS FAA (5 May 1882 – 14 October 1958) was an Australian geologist, Antarctic explorer and academic. He became a lecturer in petrology and mineralogy at the University of Adelaide in 1905. Mawson is best known for the ill-fated Australasian Antarctic Expedition. Mawson led the expedition which set off in 1911 from Hobart. It would be 2 years before he returned home. The expedition was known as ‘The Greatest Survival Story in the History of Exploration’. Mawson’s image appeared in 2012 on a $1 coin issued within the Inspirational Australians series.
Howard FLOREY was born in Adelaide, South Australia, in 1898. Florey was educated at Kyre College Preparatory School (now Scotch College) and then St Peter’s College, Adelaide, where he was a brilliant academic and junior sportsman. He studied medicine at the University of Adelaide from 1917 to 1921. Florey shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1945 with Sir Ernst Boris Chain and Sir Alexander Fleming for his role in the making of penicillin. Florey’s discoveries are estimated to have saved over 82 million lives, and he is consequently regarded by the Australian scientific and medical community as one of its greatest figures. Sir Robert Menzies, Australia’s longest-serving Prime Minister, said, “In terms of world well-being, Florey was the most important man ever born in Australia”.
Alice (Alitya) RIGNEY (27 November 1942 – 13 May 2017) was a Kaurna and Narungga Elder and educational trailblazer. Born at Point Pearce, she attended Unley Girls Technical High School before returning home to train as a nurse, marry, and raise her family. After working as a teachers’ aide in mission schools, she obtained a Diploma of Education and taught at Taperoo Primary School before becoming the first Aboriginal bureaucrat in SA’s education department. In 1986 she became the first female Aboriginal principal in Australia when appointed head of Kaurna Plains School. She introduced the Kaurna language curriculum in South Australia and taught over 5000 Aboriginal children. Rigney received a Public Service Medal in 1991, SA’s NAIDOC Elder of the Year award in 1997 and an honorary doctorate from the University of South Australia for her services to Aboriginal education.
We have three separate zones relevant to our College: one for Preschool, one for Primary and another for High School.
As a waiting list exists for most year levels across the College you will need to check if you live within the appropriate zone. An exception to the zoning rule is if you already have a child enrolled at any year level, or if your child qualifies for one of our Special Interest Sports programmes in years 7-12.
